I don't know, but I did talk to one person and she had gotten her birds from Europe. It might be that for the good egg quality you might have to search for European breeders. but I don't know for sure. I haven't tried my luck with these birds yet because of this and because we need birds that will lay during our cold winters, and from what I've read so far they aren't winter layers. Good luck in your search! I'd love to know if you find anything out. Thanks for commenting!

The eggs are beautiful. But from what I'\'ve read, the American strain of Marans are more for meat than for eggs, and the amount of eggs I get per week matters to me.
I notice all the focus is on the color of the eggs. I want both productivity and color.
Any suggestions as to how I can locate a breeder who is into more than color?

Hey Debra,
I think anything your daughter can learn about the birthing process will make her a better doula, this is probably a lot more then she needs though. Has she checked out DONA certification? That is where I would start, and like I said just reading anything about natural birthing methods, since there is a ton of information out there. If she is thinking of being a midwife too but isn't really sure if it's her calling, this would be a good place to start. For the upfront fee you can find out what the course is all about and get enough information to study on your own if you want. If your looking for the top midwifery education I would find a school or I know Ancient Art Midwifery Institute (AAMI) is really good too.

A part of this course is to become a certified doula, so I would start with that. I wish I had started with that first before getting into this course because it's such an essential part of midwifery anyways.

I hope that helps! Good luck to you and your daughter!

It looks like it maybe a good course for my teen daughter to take- she wants to be a doula. This course may make her a more qualified doula. Not sure if I would consider it the education truly needed to be a qualified midwife. What do you think?
Blessings, Debra

I thought about you on your birthday, but didn't get the chance to say/write anything, what with school and all.

At any rate, welcome to the better side of a quarter century! I still look back fondly on the years we had together, and am incredibly glad you've managed to keep true to yourself and get the things you wanted out of life. There have been ups and downs, I'm sure, but looking back, this was what you always said you wanted- a house and children of your own and a healthy family. Not many people can say they're this on-track with their dreams at your age, so kudos to you.

I hope the coming year finds you and yours healthy, happy, contented and thriving in all ways.

Cheers!

Hey Amanda!
Thanks for your comment, and I wish I could give you more information about this. I started the program with gusto and it dwindled to nothing. It seems incredibly simple, maybe even to simple. With a lack of time constraints I tend to slack and not do anything. All the course information is sent to you after you apply for the course, so essentially you could do all the studying you need from that. I have heard that the tests she sends are related to the books you read so it's just a bit of a basic over view and reports you send back to her on those books are extremely basic. Like 2nd grade. Not that this is a bad thing, I like the basics but I guess I was expecting something a bit more challenging.
To be honest I haven't looked at my course stuff for almost a year. I think personally I need time constraints or I wont get anything done. The course requires that you go out into the community and find midwifes, other students (which may or may not be an easy thing for you) to study with, go to childbirth classes and several other things (which I can't remember at the moment). Nothing terribly difficult but for me with little ones and homeschooling it was a hard one to work on. I'm sure these things are probably required anywhere though, especially since it's a correspondence course.

For the time being I have put midwifery on the back burner for myself. I'm finding that I personally need to be more present here for my family and I am bad at multi-tasking and personal motivation just right now. I think this course could be whatever you make it. Your reading a lot, I know there are hands on weekend events, and I know that eventually you will be apprenticing, but I guess it's just what you put into it. If you have good self-motivation, I think this could be a great course and could easily work. I might just suggest you sign up and spend the $50 to get the information. You can always decided that it's not right for you, I know $50 can be a lot, but for that you get the information you need to see what you will be studying through the whole course. That way you can really feel it out. Then it might be a waste of $50 but then again it might not. And at least that way you also know what would be expected of you from this course (completely) and you could judge for yourself if it would be something that feels right for you.

I hope that helps you a little bit. Good luck on your journey!
