We also watched several YouTube movies about butchering/plucking/gutting and cutting, just to get a better idea of what we were in for. I found these videos to be particularly helpful:
Video 1 – Takes you from the chicken to the finished product. They use a bantam which is incredibly small and sometimes hard to see, but I really liked this guys tutorial.
Video 2 & Video 3 – Are of some kids who are butchering and then cleaning their birds. It’s a little slow and not a tutorial, but I felt like it gave me a good idea of how much force was going to be needed for cleaning out and killing.
Video 4 – The first movie I saw about cutting up a whole chicken. Very useful, but the next video help some too after the fact.
Video 5 – Found this video after I cut up my first whole chicken and found it had some good tips (like for the keel bone and back bone).
Video 6 – Next year, we’ll have one of these, The Whizbang Chicken Plucker!
