My husband, daughter and I started a colon cleanse a little over a week ago. We are into are fasting stage. Day 1 was challenging, but then again it was Friday and I am always rather intense at the end of the week. And this week was no exception. We’d all been cooped up inside because of rain. Great for the plants, not so great for the kids (or my nerves). But we survived day 1.
Day 2 was much easier. I felt energized enough to plant some of the flowers I’d bought from the local high school’s greenhouse. They look pretty on my front porch (potted plants). I got some root bound geraniums that I gave some more breathing room. I love geraniums! They can be outside and beautiful until it gets cold and then I can bring them in and have cheery plants all winter. The planting wouldn’t have been that stressful, but I had my 30# baby strapped to my back. I feel like I dd pretty well with day 2, but did have the munchies in the evening while we watched Star Trek.
Now it is day 3. I’m not feeling hungry, but I can see the fast is taking it’s toll on my son who is still nursing. I remember this happening on day 3 when I fasted with my daughter at this age. Suddenly my milk is just not in good supply. That means I need more calories so more juices. As much as I love juice. it spikes my blood sugar and takes me several intense days to wean myself off of the sugars in there. I have been eating a lot of spirulina, living protein powder and protivity (which is an excellent protein supplement) but these things do little for my milk supply. They do help cut the blood sugar spikes though. I ate some canned pears this morning and drank the juice. My mother-in-law canned them and didn’t use sweetener. Maybe that will help a bit.
Supposably day 3 is one of the hardest. More psychologically then anything else. We’ll see how the day goes. Then just one more day. Coming off of a fast has always seemed really hard to me. I guess it’s a sacred feeling. Suddenly I become extremely aware of what I am putting into my body and how that food feels.
